US Air Force deploys combat aircraft to Japan
The United States Air Force will begin deploying fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighters to its Kadena base on the Japanese island of Okinawa from early November.
There are currently 50 obsolete F-15 fighters located at Kadena Air Base, with over ten of them to be sent to the US within a few weeks. The F-22s will be temporarily stationed there in exchange, TASS reports, citing the Nikkei newspaper.
According to Nikkei, these combat aircraft have a high degree of invisibility to radar and high combat potential.
The newspaper also noted that the US Air Force has not yet determined which combat aircraft will be deployed on Kadena on a permanent or rotational basis.
Kadena Air Base, one of the biggest air bases in the world, is situated close to the cities of Kadena and Chatan. It is home to 18 largest air wing in the US Air Force.
