North Korean leader inspects armoured, electronic weapons institute
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the Armoured Defensive Weapons Institute and the Electronic Weapons Institute under the Academy of Defence Sciences on September 11 and 12.
During his inspection, Kim was briefed on recent technological developments, including joint research achievements by the Armoured Defensive Weapons Institute and the Tank Designing Bureau. These included advancements in special composite armour, active protection systems, and upper-attack defensive structures, Caliber.Az reports via North Korean state-run media.
A live-fire test of a new active protection system was conducted to evaluate its performance against frontal, lateral, and upper attacks using various anti-tank missiles. According to DPRK sources, the system demonstrated high responsiveness and effectiveness in interception.
At the Electronic Weapons Institute, Kim reviewed ongoing development projects and emphasised the importance of continuing the modernisation of the country’s conventional armed forces. He noted that future defence policy would focus on the parallel development of nuclear and conventional military capabilities.
