US embassy condoles with Azerbaijan over armed attack on embassy in Tehran

The US embassy in Azerbaijan has expressed condolences in connection with the armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran.

“The Embassy of the United States offers our condolences to our Azerbaijani MFA colleagues and their families. We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that killed Orkhan Asgarov and injured others at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran,” Caliber.Az reports citing the embassy’s message on Twitter.

An armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran was committed on January 27 morning.

The attacker broke through to the security post of the diplomatic mission and killed the head of the security service by using a Kalashnikov rifle.

Two embassy security guards were also injured while repelling the attack. Their health condition is satisfactory.

The Azerbaijani side is urgently investigating the incident.
