US expresses concern over Russia-North Korea growing cooperation
The United States has reiterated its concern about the growing cooperation between Russia and North Korea after the two nations signed a mutual aid pact.
This agreement, inked by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, establishes a "comprehensive strategic partnership" and promises mutual assistance if either country comes under attack, Caliber.Az writes, citing South Korean media.
A State Department spokesperson emphasized that the deepening ties between Russia and North Korea threaten peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, the global non-proliferation regime, and UN Security Council resolutions. The official also highlighted the potential impact on Ukraine's fight for independence against Russia's invasion.
The spokesperson condemned Russia's actions, stating that the country is violating the UN Charter and undermining the international system. The US warned against any nation supporting Putin's aggression in Ukraine.
A Pentagon official acknowledged the reports on the summit but offered no further comments, stating that the situation is being monitored closely.
The summit raises concerns that military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow could bolster Russia's war efforts in Ukraine and enhance North Korea's weapons programs, posing risks to regional and global security.
