UK, French air forces strike ISIS underground complex in Syria
On January 3, British and French air forces carried out a joint operation targeting a fortified underground complex used by the terrorist group Islamic State (ISIS) north of Palmyra, Syria.
The UK Ministry of Defence said the facility was used by militants to store weapons and explosives. British Typhoon fighter jets, supported by a Voyager tanker aircraft, deployed Paveway IV precision-guided bombs, successfully destroying the entrance to the tunnel network, per Caliber.Az.
“The target was successfully neutralised,” the Ministry said, noting the operation demonstrates the coalition’s ongoing commitment to preventing any resurgence of ISIS.
British Defence Secretary John Healey emphasised that the strike underscores London’s determination, alongside its allies, to eliminate terrorist threats and reinforce regional security.
