Belarusian president calls on SCO to play active role in global politics

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has reached a point where it can shape the world’s future, but it needs to take more concrete action, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said, calling on member Countries to play a more active role in global politics.

Lukashenko made clear that the SCO should play a more significant role in international affairs so that its decisions are taken into account when addressing international security issues, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“We have already reached this point. But we have few concrete actions,” Lukashenko noted.

According to him, the SCO had not taken concrete steps in response to sanctions against its members, US trade restrictions on China and military action against Iran, which is a member of the organisation.

Lukashenko added that the SCO should at least have convened to discuss these issues and express its position.
