US VP Vance calls Iran’s leadership “really crazy” over Gulf oil threat

01 September 2026 12:13

One of the key lessons from the war with Iran was that the country’s leadership is “really, really crazy” and prepared to take extreme measures to disrupt the flow of oil and gas in the Gulf, US Vice President JD Vance told Fox News in an interview.

Vance said the United States has now reached a point where a significant part of its activities in the region is focused on ensuring freedom of navigation and trade through the Strait of Hormuz, Caliber.Az reports via The Jerusalem Post.

He noted that the US recently responded to Iranian forces that, according to him, were preparing to lay mines in the strait.

“What strikes me as strange is that sometimes they even fire on their own allies, just to prevent the free flow of oil and gas,” the VP added.

Asked whether this was the reason behind US efforts in Venezuela to increase oil production, Vance replied: “That is not the reason we are doing it, but it is certainly a positive benefit of the move.”
