Xi Jinping says SCO was created to counter "three evil forces"

Chinese President Xi Jinping has said the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) was created 25 years ago in response to the threat posed by terrorism, extremism and separatism.

Speaking at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of SCO member states in Bishkek, Xi said the organisation was established with the lessons of the Cold War in mind, Russian media reports.

He said protecting sovereignty, security and development interests had become a common consensus among countries in the region in response to the threats and the desire for peace and development.

Xi said the SCO had continued to demonstrate its “vitality and dynamism” since its establishment.
