Maduros expected to be held at same Brooklyn jail as "El Chapo" cartel boss, P. Diddy
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife are reportedly going to be held at the same New York federal jail that housed high-profile prisoners such as drug warlord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzmán and disgraced hip-hop mogul P. Diddy.
They are believed to be headed to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn following recent remarks by the US president on the next steps in their persecution procedures, Caliber.Az reports citing US media outlet Axios.
The article points out that the MDC facility is the only federal jail in New York, with the majority of its roughly 1,300 inmates being held there before their trial.
US President Donald Trump did not explicitly name the facility, but told reporters during a news conference on January 3 that the Maduros are "heading to, ultimately, New York, and then a decision will be made, I assume, between New York and Miami or Florida."
The Brooklyn jail is infamous for its unsanitary and unsafe conditions, where some of the country's most high-profile "celebrity prisoners" are being held for breaching federal laws. According to the article, they include Ghislaine Maxwell, who is being held for her involvement in the highly-publicised sex trafficking operations by financier Jeffrey Epstein, and Luigi Mangione, who stands accused of having assassinated an insurance executive on the public streets of Manhattan.
Other famous previous inmates of the jail, who have since been transferred to other facilities following their sentencing, include the infamous former leader of the Mexican Sinaloa drug Cartel, Joaquin Guzmán, as well as entertainment industry star Sean Combs (better known as P. Diddy), who faced sex trafficking charges.
