US vice president may scrap Pakistan trip for domestic meetings
Mediators are urging Iran to attend negotiations as US Vice President JD Vance remains in Washington, D.C., for discussions on the way forward, sources familiar with the talks spoke to CNN.
It is currently unclear when Vance will depart Washington for Pakistan. The White House is expected to hold additional meetings on April 21 to review next steps, with the Vice President taking part, the sources said.
A White House official told CNN that “additional policy meetings are taking place at the White House in which the Vice President will participate.”
Vance had been expected to leave for Islamabad on April 21 morning. However, a key question remains whether the Iranian delegation will also attend the talks.
As of late Tuesday, April 21 morning, Iran had not yet confirmed whether it would send officials to Pakistan for a second round of negotiations.
