Vance ties success of Iran operation to end of Tehran’s nuclear programme
US Vice President JD Vance stated that military action against Iran would be deemed successful if it led to a long-term commitment by Tehran not to pursue nuclear weapons.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Vance said the objective is not only to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons now, but also to ensure it does not attempt to rebuild the capability to develop them in the future.
“So part of our Iran policy, and this is where I get frustrated with the people who say you should never negotiate with Iran, part of our Iran policy is like solving the long-term problem that if we could create the sort of circumstance where Iran would commit not just to not have a nuclear weapon right now, but over the long term to not try to rebuild that capacity,” he said.
Under such a scenario, the United States would regard the outcome as a beneficial result, Vance added.
