WEF identifies top global risks for next decade
The World Economic Forum has published a report on the top global risks following the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is revealed in the annual WEF Global Risks Report 2024.
Experts note that disinformation, extreme weather events and public polarisation will come to the fore in the next two years.
In the long term, climate change, biodiversity loss and resource scarcity are the main threats. Cyber threats, forced migration and environmental pollution are also on the list of risks for both periods.
According to the WEF experts, misinformation harms all areas of public life. The spread of false information leads to the polarisation of society and undermines health systems and social justice.
To combat disinformation, citizens need free access to diverse sources of data. However, in several countries, there is a trend towards increasing censorship and restricting access to the internet.
