Axios: Trump vows immediate delivery of Patriot missiles to Ukraine
U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a phone call to immediately send 10 Patriot interceptor missiles, as well as to assist in finding additional supply channels.
Prior to this conversation, Trump had also spoken with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Axios reports, citing undisclosed sources.
One German official claimed that Merz had appealed to Trump to unfreeze the delivery of Patriot interceptor missiles that had previously been halted en route to Ukraine.
Merz expressed readiness to purchase additional Patriot batteries from the U.S. and send them to Kyiv. In response, Trump suggested that Germany instead transfer one of its existing batteries to Ukraine. While no agreement was reached, the negotiations are ongoing.
The decision to send Patriot missiles follows Trump’s earlier comments at the NATO Summit in The Hague on June 25, where he expressed openness to providing more Patriots but noted their scarcity, as the U.S. has also supplied them to Israel. During the summit, Zelenskyy offered to purchase 10 Patriot systems for $15 billion, a proposal Trump initially dismissed, citing Ukraine’s inability to confront a larger adversary like Russia without external support.
