Zelenskyy: Ukraine needs over trillion dollars to recover
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced that the country is creating a system that will allow partner countries to "take patronage" of regions, cities or businesses. According to him, more than $1 trillion will be needed to rebuild Ukraine.
As Kommersant reports, he said this in a video message to the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Exhibitions, presenting the application for Odesa to hold the "Expo-2030". At the same time, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen said that, according to calculations, the damage suffered by Ukraine during the hostilities amounts to €600 billion.
"We are already seeing interest [in the program] from France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Türkiye, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Austria, Greece, Canada, the United States, Japan, and Australia. This is not yet a complete list," the Ukrainian leader said.
On 25 November, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov estimated the restoration of the country's energy system at several hundred million dollars.
The European Parliament on 24 November approved a new draft of financial assistance to Ukraine worth 18 billion dollars for 2023. The aid implies preferential long-term loans to finance urgent needs, repair critical infrastructure, and rebuild the country after the end of military operations.
