Norwegian Air Force first in Europe to land F-35 jets on highway VIDEO
The Norwegian Air Force has made a significant move by deploying F-35A fighter jets on highways, setting a precedent in Europe.
This strategy has the potential to reshape the paradigm of aircraft survivability during significant conflicts, especially when traditional airbases are targeted, the Interesting Engineering platform reported.
Major General Rolf Folland, the Chief of the Royal Norwegian Air Force, hailed this development as a pioneering achievement not only for Norway but also for the Nordic countries and NATO. He emphasized the importance of dispersal as a concept, highlighting that by utilizing small airfields and now motorways, the Air Force can enhance its survivability in times of war. This approach is crucial because stationary fighter jets at conventional airbases are vulnerable to ground attacks, and dispersing them across various locations increases their resilience.
