UK flights disrupted by new air traffic control failure

Flights at several British airports were delayed on September 21 after a new air traffic control failure, less than two weeks after a separate outage disrupted services across the country.

Air traffic control provider NATS said the latest delays were linked to an issue at its Prestwick centre in Scotland, Caliber.Az reports per British media.

Manchester, Glasgow and Belfast airports reported delays, while London Gatwick and London City airports warned of some disruption. EasyJet cancelled some flights, while British Airways said passengers were likely to face disruption.

NATS said the latest problem was unrelated to the outage two weeks earlier, which was caused by a software defect and led to about 2,000 cancelled flights.

It said airports south of Manchester were broadly unaffected, while flights heading north and those departing Scottish airports were subject to delays.

EasyJet said the latest disruption highlighted concerns about the resilience of NATS' systems and called for action to prevent repeated failures.
