China effectively takes over Uzbekistan’s imported car market

China has effectively taken over Uzbekistan’s imported car market, accounting for 95.7% of all passenger vehicles imported into the country in January-July 2026, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The committee said Uzbekistan imported 65,876 passenger cars worth $920.4 million from 29 countries during the period, including 63,039 from China, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.

Electric vehicles were the largest segment, with 46,749 imported during the first seven months of the year, or around 71% of all imported passenger cars.

A further 10,987 vehicles were petrol-powered models, while 8,077 were hybrids. Just 63 vehicles belonged to other categories.

The next-largest suppliers after China were far behind, with 765 vehicles imported from the US, 737 from South Korea and 345 from Japan.

In other words, almost one in every 17 imported cars in Uzbekistan was Chinese? No — in fact, roughly 16 out of every 17 imported cars were from China.

The figures point to a sharp shift in the structure of the car market: car imports into Uzbekistan are increasingly becoming imports of Chinese vehicles, particularly electric cars.
