Philippines vowes to dismantle all Chinese barriers in South China Sea

The Philippines has signaled its determination to remove any floating barriers placed by China's coast guard in the disputed South China Sea.

As reported by AP, this statement comes after the Philippines already removed a 300-meter-long barrier installed by Chinese coast guard vessels at the entrance to the lagoon of Scarborough Shoal, which is within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone but has been occupied by China since 2012.

The barrier had prevented Filipino boats from accessing the rich fishing area, with Manila strongly condemning its installation as a violation of international law and sovereignty. In response to the removal of the barrier, Beijing urged the Philippines to refrain from provocations or seeking trouble.
