Israel, Hamas continue hostage release talks despite ongoing hostilities
Negotiations on the release of hostages from the Gaza Strip continue despite the resumption of Israel's military operation in the enclave, CNN reports.
Earlier, the Palestinian movement Hamas released 110 hostages during the humanitarian truce that began on November 24.
According to Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy, members of the Palestinian movement resumed hostilities against the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on December 1. At that time, 137 people remained in captivity in the Gaza Strip, Levy stressed.
On the morning of that day, the Israeli military's press office reported that the country's air defence (air defence) system had started to operate. According to the IDF, the defence systems intercepted a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip in the sky.
After that, Israel Defence Forces officials announced the resumption of hostilities against Hamas. The report specified that the decision was taken because the Palestinian movement violated the terms of the ceasefire agreement and shelled the territory of the Jewish state.
