Italy reports first cases of mycoplasma pneumonia

Italian doctors have identified the first cases of pneumonia in the country, which is caused by the bacterium Mycoplasma pneumonia.
According to the Italian Higher Institute of Health (ISS), the disease was confirmed in two children who were hospitalized with respiratory symptoms in the city of Perugia, Gazeta.ru reports.
At the same time, the institute emphasized that this pneumonia is not some new disease, but the pathogen Mycoplasma pneumoniae has long been circulating in society and is responsible for 10-20 per cent of pneumonia cases globally.
