Israeli army storming Jenin City Pledges to destroy all Palestinian militant groups
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) units began storming the West Bank town of Jenin on the night of December 4 to 5.
The IDF deployed some 50 military vehicles and four bulldozers, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The agency's sources said drones were flying over the town and Israeli snipers took up positions on the roofs of several houses.
The bulldozers then began destroying Jenin's infrastructure, causing some neighbourhoods in the city to lose electricity. Clashes erupted between Israeli soldiers and Palestinians in the centre of Jenin.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reserve spokesman Jonathan Conricus has said that the IDF did not stop fighting after destroying the radical Hamas movement, as they plan to defeat other Palestinian groups operating in the region.
"Our goal is to ensure that there is no military infrastructure in Gaza that can pose a threat to Israeli civilians. This includes Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and some smaller but more radical terrorist organisations that exist, including the Popular Resistance Committees, the Palestinian Liberation Front and some others," he said.
"It's not just Hamas. And we intend to make sure that there is no military structure that is capable of threatening Israelis. Our target, of course, is Hamas, which serves as a great centre of gravity, but our operations are not limited to them. Since 7 October, we have been fighting and have been quite successful in destroying Islamic Jihad militants and ringleaders," Conricus added.
"We will continue to do that until they are defeated until we bring home the hostages, all 137 of them until we eliminate all existing military threats and make sure that they are incapable of regrouping once the fighting is over," he concluded.
Moreover, the Actions Coordination Office of the Israeli Government in the Palestinian Territories claimed that Israel denied statements by World Health Organization (WHO) Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus about evacuating warehouses in southern Gaza.
Israel has not asked the WHO representatives to evacuate supplies from the organization's two medical warehouses in the south of the Gaza Strip, the structure said.
“The truth is that we did not ask you [WHO] to evacuate the warehouses, and we also made this clear, in writing, to the relevant UN representatives. We would have expected at least more accuracy from a UN official,” the Office wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier, Ghebreyesus reported on the same social network that the Israeli Defense Forces warned the organization about the need to remove supplies from two medical warehouses in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
