Palestinian president rejects Trump's idea of American administration in Gaza
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has opposed U.S. President Donald Trump’s idea of turning the Gaza Strip into a “Middle Eastern Riviera” and appointing an American administration to govern the territory.
“We are against the displacement of Palestinians outside of Palestine, as President Trump proposed. We do not want a ‘Middle Eastern Riviera’ to be created in the Gaza Strip. This plan is unacceptable, and therefore we have rejected it and cannot accept it,” he said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on May 10, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“We have also heard about the idea of establishing an American administration in Gaza. We are strongly opposed to this idea and have informed the Americans accordingly,” Abbas added.
According to him, “neither the Americans nor any other foreigners have the right to govern the Gaza Strip.”
“We want to return to Gaza, and we would like the Palestinian Authority to govern the Gaza Strip,” Abbas concluded.
U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to transform the Gaza Strip into a "Middle Eastern Riviera" has sparked widespread international condemnation. The plan involves displacing Gaza's approximately 2 million residents to neighbouring countries, such as Egypt and Jordan, and redeveloping the area into a luxury resort.
The plan suggests relocating Gaza's population to neighbouring countries, a move widely criticised as a form of ethnic cleansing and a violation of international law.
