Zelenskyy says no request for Taurus missiles from Germany, air defence remains priority

11 May 2025 11:09

In response to a question from German journalists regarding Ukraine's request for Taurus missiles, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine’s priorities in its ongoing discussions with Germany do not centre on missile systems but rather on air defence.

Speaking at a press conference following a meeting of the coalition of the determined in Kyiv, Zelenskyy refrained from reiterating the previous calls for the Taurus missile system, which had been a prominent request under the previous German government, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

Instead, the Ukrainian president underscored the importance of continued support for Ukraine’s air defence capabilities.

"You know, for us, the issue of air defence systems is critical. Germany has already made significant contributions with the Patriot systems, and they continue to assist with IRIS-T systems. We are counting on this support and have confidence in the timelines for delivery. This is a vital aspect of our defence strategy," Zelenskyy said.

The president also expressed his confidence in Germany’s commitment to Ukraine, reassuring the public that Germany would continue to provide support throughout the ongoing conflict and beyond.

"Germany will be with Ukraine and will continue to support us until the war ends, and even after," Zelenskyy added, emphasising the enduring nature of the partnership.
