Iran calls on Arab nations to jointly rebuild Gaza
Iran has called on Arab countries to unite efforts to create a joint platform for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
This initiative was put forward by Kamal Kharrazi, advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader and head of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, at the opening of the 4th Arab-Iranian Dialogue Conference, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“We must establish a common platform to support internally displaced persons and to rebuild the Gaza Strip,” he said.
According to Kharrazi, Iran is ready for dialogue with countries in the region to reduce misunderstandings. To this end, Tehran also proposes the establishment of a research centre.
To note, Iran has consistently positioned itself as a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, both politically and financially. Since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza conflict in October 2023, Tehran has intensified its diplomatic efforts to rally regional actors around Palestinian reconstruction and resistance.
In early March, Arab nations have endorsed a comprehensive $53 billion plan for Gaza's reconstruction, emphasizing the establishment of a national Palestinian committee to oversee the efforts, explicitly excluding Hamas. The plan, adopted during a summit in Cairo, outlines a three-year initial phase with an estimated cost of $20 billion.
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect from January 19 to March 18, 2025, but its implementation was incomplete and eventually collapsed. Until a new ceasefire is attained with the backing of international stakeholders, the release of hostages and Gaza's reconstruction will be delayed.
