Armenian military expert says French arms deliveries could spark new war

23 February 2024 09:56

Military expert Hayk Nagapetyan said in his interview with Armenian media that French arms supplies to Armenia could lead to dangerous processes in the South Caucasus.

"For the first time, armoured vehicles of the Bastion type have arrived from France, and I don't think that they can be of any use to Armenia, which is located in the conflict zone. They were also offered to Ukraine, for example, but they rejected them. They are supposed to protect against automatic weapons fire, but if you use a large-calibre machine gun, you could get hit," he noted, per Caliber.Az.

"They don't mean a thing in front. And you can buy night vision devices in large quantities from any country, it's no problem. Air defence systems are not weapons, they detect unmanned flying objects in the sky. What is the point of detecting them if there is no equipment to defeat them?

The delivery of these radars to Armenia has one purpose - Armenia has an agreement with Russia on joint air defence control, and their task is to be part of the joint air defence control system because the West needs them for entry into the Russian-Ukrainian front.

Referring to the message of the French Minister of Defence, who has arrived in Armenia, I would like to say that dangerous processes are being set in motion here. Also taking into account the extremely negative position of the President of Azerbaijan regarding the Armenian-French military-technical cooperation.

France is not really supplying arms to Armenia but is creating an imitation of supplying arms, which gives the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev the reason to say that France is arming Armenia to start a war against it. Moreover, it gives Azerbaijan a legitimate basis for military action. This would allow Azerbaijan to launch a pre-empted counterstrike.

France also aims to open a second front against Russia, because on the Ukrainian front, it is already clear where they are going, and sooner or later this will end with NATO being defeated," the expert said.
