Armenia's strategic collapse clearly manifested in energy system – expert

03 April 2024 14:32

Armenian expert on energy policies Vahe Davtyan has made a post on his social media accounts saying his country’s collapse manifested in the energy system.

"The strategic collapse of Armenia is clearly manifested in the energy system, this time already in the direction of Georgia," he said, Caliber.Az reports.

"Recently it became known that the government has once again postponed the construction of the Armenia-Georgia power transmission line and two substations serving it. Siemens, which participated in the tender, did not submit a financial proposal, citing excessive employment in other markets. And the second bidder declared bankruptcy. In fact, we are dealing with a situation where international business simply avoids any long-term activities in Armenia, taking into account the existing security risks and high degree of unpredictability in our country.

It is obvious that another delay in the construction of the Armenia-Georgia power transmission line and the lack of interest in it on the part of international business are also directly related to Yerevan's "enclave policy". Given if the enclaves are surrendered, Armenia's strategic communication architecture will be radically changed and in reality jeopardized, the construction of a new interstate power line cannot be started without taking into account the new realities. In addition, international business does not rule out that at some point it will have to coordinate the logistics of the transmission line with Baku as well.

The Armenia-Georgia power transmission line should have been put into operation as early as 2019 under the North-South power corridor. Moreover, to this day, the 3rd Iran-Armenia power transmission line, which is an integral part of this "energy corridor", is not ready either. As a result, Armenia is actually gradually being pushed out of the North-South megaproject, giving way to Azerbaijan.

This is one of the vivid manifestations of the plan aimed at blockade of Armenia, at strangulation of economic and infrastructural systems of our country by the so-called anaconda method," Davtyan posted.
