Russian peacekeepers' mission in Karabakh accomplished

Chairman of the Rodina political party and the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Alexey Zhuravlyov has stated that the mission of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh has been fully accomplished.

Zhuravlyov highlighted the pivotal role played by the peacekeepers in preserving the safety of the civilian population and preventing further bloodshed in the region, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.

"The peaceful population was preserved, they were helped both in evacuation, and in treatment, and in the provision of water and food. Now the mission can be considered fully accomplished, which means it is time for our military to return home," Zhuravlyov stated.

He emphasized that the presence of peacekeepers was crucial during the height of the conflict, standing between the warring armies and preventing large-scale bloodshed in 2023.

"Now, with no warring parties in Karabakh and the acknowledgement that Karabakh belongs to Azerbaijan, the need for the Russian contingent has diminished," Zhuravlyov noted.

The MP expressed gratitude for the role played by the Russian peacekeepers, noting that their presence helped maintain stability and prevent further escalation of the conflict.

"The Russian contingent was necessary there as long as the conflict continued, and played an important role in preventing a large-scale bloodshed from happening there in 2023 by standing between the warring armies. And, at times, this was achieved only at the cost of the lives of our military personnel," Zhuravlyov added.
