Armenia, Azerbaijan continue negotiations on mutual recognition of territorial integrity

22 May 2024 13:40

Negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on mutual recognition of territorial integrity are ongoing, according to Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan.

During a press conference with Claude Wiseler, president of Luxembourg's Chamber of Deputies, Simonyan emphasized the continued dialogue based on several statements, including the Alma-Ata Declaration, signed by both parties, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.

"This is one of the discussed topics at this stage. But we don't have an agreement and the discussions continue," Simonyan stated, indicating that while progress has been made, a final agreement has yet to be reached.

Regarding the opening of communications in the region, Simonyan reiterated Armenia's commitment to previously stated principles. He noted that talks with Azerbaijan are being held based on this established position. "Yerevan is ready to continue these negotiations at all levels, not only within the framework of the peace treaty. We attach importance to the idea of opening all communications, which is also reflected in the November 9, 2020 statement. Armenia continues to work in that area," he said.

Expressing optimism, Simonyan hoped that these efforts would ultimately lead to success, paving the way for enhanced cooperation and stability in the region.
