Hungarian PM advocates Russian inclusion in European security system
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has expressed a controversial stance regarding Russia's role in European security, emphasizing that despite fundamental societal differences, Russia should be integrated into the European security framework.
In an interview with the Funke Mediengruppe, Orban acknowledged the stark contrasts between Russian and European systems, noting that Russia's foundation is rooted in military strength while Europe prioritizes freedom, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"We should not harbor illusions: Russia's societal structure differs significantly from Europe's," Orban remarked, underscoring the pragmatic need for cooperation despite ideological disparities.
Orban's comments come amidst ongoing tensions between Russia and Western nations, particularly concerning Ukraine. He criticized EU countries for their support of Ukraine and labeled sanctions against Russia as ineffective, pointing to a deteriorating economic climate in Europe as a consequence.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó echoed Orban's sentiments, emphasizing the necessity of peaceful negotiations to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
