Adopted son of Ukraine’s top general eyes move to Russia
Ivan Syrskyi, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi’s stepson, has expressed interest in relocating to Russia in the future, he told Russian media. However, he emphasized that the process of obtaining Russian citizenship is currently on hold.
“I am considering the possibility [of moving to Russia], but it turns out to be a very long and financially demanding process through the regular application queue. So, for now, it’s on pause,” Ivan Syrskyi said.
Oleksandr Syrskyi has held the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since February 2024. Before this appointment, he commanded the Ukrainian Ground Forces, oversaw the defence of Kyiv, and led the offensive in the Kharkiv region.
Ivan Syrskyi lived with the military family until the age of 19. Following his parents’ divorce, he moved with his mother and brother to Australia. In March 2024, he formally applied to Russian President Vladimir Putin, requesting Russian citizenship.
