Al Jazeera: Pakistani sources point to possible US-Iran talks next week
Two Pakistani security officials have said that negotiations between the United States and Iran are expected to take place before April 24.
Speaking to Al Jazeera on condition of anonymity, they noted that their assessment is based on a combination of developments on the ground. “Two US heavy airlift aircraft, C-17 Globemasters, have landed at Noor Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi”, near the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
They further stated that “roads from the airport to Islamabad’s Red Zone have been temporarily closed, indicating heightened security arrangements”.
According to the same sources, “both the Serena and Marriott hotels in Islamabad are being cleared of guests with no new bookings allowed until Friday”.
The Serena hotel hosted the first round of US-Iran negotiations on April 11.
