Another collapse of Armenian expectations at UN Security Council A complete and undeniable fiasco
Two times two is four, well, maybe five, at least six, but not seven. It’s a joke, of course. But this is what comes to mind when you read the statement made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who suffered a personal and at the same time diplomatic, political, image and all possible fiascoes. No need to say that he was pathetic and ridiculous.
In general, the man who turned into a formula the age-old crazy idea of the world Armenians - "Garabagh is Armenia and that's it", and later confusingly refuted himself by admitting that the territory of Azerbaijan includes Karabakh as well, is talking nonsense again. He is desperately trying to prove to the citizens of his country that two times two is seven.
"The main achievement of the UN Security Council meeting was the international community's fixation of the fact of the blockade of the Lachin corridor," Pashinyan blurted out without a moment’s hesitation.
Amazing! Who adopted a document on this issue and when? In what UN Security Council resolution was it mentioned? However, Mr Pashinyan a priori cannot have truthful answers to these questions, because to admit that there was no talk about any "blockade" in the UN Security Council means to make himself look like a clown, not in the political arena, but from a cheap chapiteau.
The Armenian Prime Minister and his entire team were preparing for the current session of the UN Security Council with such pathos, announcing it so much, encouraging the Armenian society so much... But the session was held, and... nothing happened. At least what Yerevan was so eager to hear. There was no resolution. There was not even a final statement. People simply gathered, listened to the ramblings of the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, heard the clear arguments of Yashar Aliyev, Azerbaijan's representative to the UN, and went about their business.
There were other speakers. Including the representative of France, who expectedly rebroadcast Armenian nonsense. But at the same time, the representatives of Türkiye, Albania and Russia said their weighty words. And they spoke about things that Pashinyan would not want to hear even in his worst dream. However, he had to listen to a stern rebuke in his address in reality. The speeches of representatives of the United States, China, Brazil and other countries were not what Yerevan and Paris had hoped for.
But the main thing is that there was no resolution accusing Azerbaijan of anything. Yerevan and Paris overestimated their capabilities. Since the autumn of 2020, they have been trying their best, but Azerbaijan was beyond their grasp. Because they have forgotten or overlooked many things. For example, since 2019, by unanimous decision of the member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan assumed the chairmanship of this international structure for a period of three years. And they also did not give due importance to the fact that as an indicator of high confidence in our country, its chairmanship in the Movement was extended for another year. After all, this is one of the largest international organisations in the world after the United Nations!
Also, during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of this influential international organisation, parliamentary and youth networks of the Movement were established. For example, in 2022, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation was established with a permanent secretariat in Baku.
Another discouraging fact that has not stopped Yerevan is that all previous attempts by Armenians to push the anti-Azerbaijani document through the UN Security Council have come to nothing. It would seem that it should have been learnt that any new adventure in the UN against Azerbaijan is doomed to failure. But how does a donkey know what saffron is? I think this oriental proverb is appropriate to assess the provocative activities of the Yerevan-Paris tandem against our country.
The outcome of their efforts is invariably the same - a complete and undeniable fiasco. And all of Pashinyan's attempts to prove the contrary are akin to a not particularly witty anecdote. In fact, the Armenian Prime Minister played the role of Serzh Sargsyan, whom he himself sent to the political dump. After all, the third President of Armenia also tried to prove that two times two is seven. And Seyran Ohanyan, then head of the country's Defence Ministry, was loudly playing along!
It was after Armenia's defeat in the four-day war that happened in April 2016. Azerbaijan then clearly demonstrated total military superiority over Armenia, liberating over 20 square kilometres of previously occupied territories and taking control of a number of important strategic heights. But the Sargsyan-Ohanyan tandem was vehemently trying to prove to the citizens of their country that this retreat of the Armenian army was... its victory.
Everyone knows how it ended for these two and for the Karabakh clan as a whole. But Pashinyan did not draw conclusions from the history of the failure of his predecessors, as well as from his own. Therefore, he found nothing better than to lie primitively. Realising how ridiculous his lies sound. "On the face of it, this is a bit of a strange statement," he said, entering into a dialogue with himself, refuting his own postulates.
What's next? I suspect that the new antics of official Yerevan will be just as ridiculous, senseless and pathetic. Nothing else is produced in the Republic of Armenia.
