Armenia, European Union hold roundtable to mark launch of new mission
A roundtable discussion was held to mark the launch of the European Union’s new mission in Armenia, EUPM Armenia.
The event was organised on July 13 by Armenia’s Foreign Ministry and the newly established European Union Partnership Mission in Armenia. It was co-chaired by Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan, EEAS Managing Director and Civilian Operations Commander Stefano Tomat, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos, and Head of EUPM Armenia Cosmin Dinescu.
According to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, the joint event was organised following the European Union’s decision to launch EUPM Armenia.
The ministry said the establishment of the mission marks an important new chapter in relations between Armenia and the European Union. Through the mission, the EU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Armenia’s resilience and strengthening its institutional capacities in the face of evolving challenges.
The European Union Partnership Mission in Armenia (EUPM Armenia) is a civilian advisory mission operating under the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). Established on 21 April 2026 and officially launched on 13 July 2026, the mission was deployed at the request of the Armenian government.
EUPM Armenia forms part of the European Union’s broader strategy to support Armenia through both immediate and long-term initiatives aimed at enhancing the country’s resilience. The mission does not have an executive mandate and is not involved in the decision-making processes of Armenian state institutions.
