Armenia, EU discuss visa-free travel framework during Yerevan talks
On November 5, Armenia’s Minister of Internal Affairs and Senior Official for the Visa Liberalisation Dialogue, Arpine Sargsyan, met with Johannes Luchner, Deputy Director-General for the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a press release.
Luchner is visiting Armenia on November 5–6 to present the EU–Armenia Visa Liberalisation Action Plan to the Armenian authorities.
During the meeting, Sargsyan underlined that visa liberalisation represents a significant stage in Armenia’s partnership with the European Union, serving to deepen mutual trust and cooperation.
She noted that the Visa Liberalisation Action Plan is viewed by Armenia as a strategic framework for advancing reforms in citizen mobility and public security.
The parties discussed the main directions outlined in the Action Plan.
Luchner commended Armenia’s progress toward meeting the requirements for visa liberalisation and thanked Minister Sargsyan for her effective coordination of the process.
Once implemented, the visa-free regime will allow Armenian citizens to travel short-term within the Schengen Area without visas—an objective pursued since the signing of the EU–Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2017.
