Armenia views multi-ethnicity as security threat while promoting racism Statement by Western Azerbaijan Community
On January 23, Armenia's Foreign Intelligence Service released its annual report, labelling Western Azerbaijan as a military-political risk.
This designation has sparked outrage among the Western Azerbaijan Community, which is fighting for the acknowledgement of their rights and the opportunity to return to their ancestral lands, Caliber.Az reports.
In their response, the Western Azerbaijan Community emphasized the injustice of being portrayed as a threat, stating, “Presenting us, Western Azerbaijanis, who have been ethnically cleansed... as a security threat is contrary to international law.” They pointed out that such a viewpoint reflects Armenia's uneasy stance toward multi-ethnicity, arguing, “It proves that Armenia considers multi-ethnicity as a threat to its own security and continues its policy of racism.”
The organization, which evolved from the Azerbaijan Refugee Society established in 1989 into the Western Azerbaijan Community, is dedicated to championing the rights of Azerbaijanis displaced from modern-day Armenia. Their mission is clear: they are not just seeking their right to return; they advocate for the protection, development, and security of all Azerbaijanis in the region. They firmly declare, “We strongly condemn this policy of the Armenian government and demand that it ensure our right to return,” reiterating their commitment to a peaceful, dignified resettlement in their native lands.
This ongoing struggle for recognition and rights highlights the community's rightful cause and their enduring hope for a future where they can reclaim their homeland.
