Israel’s new envoy excited to build on decades of Azerbaijan cooperation
Ronen Krausz, Israel’s newly appointed ambassador to Azerbaijan, recently met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog ahead of his departure. Sharing the moment on social media, Kraus expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude.
“Honored to be welcomed by President Isaac Herzog alongside fellow outgoing Heads of Mission. Grateful for his encouragement as we prepare for our next assignments to strengthen Israel’s global diplomatic ties. Excited to begin soon my new journey in Azerbaijan,” Kraus wrote on the X platform.
Appointed on January 13, 2025, Krausz previously served as director of the Eurasian Department at Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
His appointment, along with those of 11 other diplomats to ambassadorial and consular roles worldwide, was unanimously approved by the Israeli government following recommendations from the Committee for the Appointment of Heads of Foreign Missions and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
The diplomatic relationship between Israel and Azerbaijan dates back to 1992, with the Israeli Embassy established in Baku the following year.
Over the decades, Israel has become a vital trade partner for Azerbaijan, ranking as the second-largest importer of Azerbaijani oil. Beyond commerce, the two countries have developed strong ties in the defence sector, cementing a strategic partnership that continues to deepen.
