Northern Cyprus president praises Azerbaijan’s restoration efforts
President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, expressed strong support for Azerbaijan’s restoration of its liberated territories during the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), held in Khankendi on July 4.
Tatar stated that Azerbaijan’s achievements over the past five years in rebuilding these regions, carried out with unprecedented national unity, are a source of pride for Northern Cyprus, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He reaffirmed Northern Cyprus’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh, emphasising that the region is an inseparable part of the country.
Highlighting the global need for peace and cooperation, Tatar stressed that such values are particularly essential both in the region and around the world.
He also spoke about Northern Cyprus’s aspirations for broader international engagement. He said the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is working toward gaining rightful recognition in the global arena, pointing to its membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as a step in that direction.
Tatar further noted the strength of the Northern Cypriot education system, stating that four of its universities are ranked among the world’s top 1,000. With the capacity to host 121,000 international students, he expressed interest in establishing closer educational cooperation with Azerbaijan.
