Belarus initially celebrated its Independence Day on July 27, marking the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty in 1991. However, since 1996, July 3 has been observed as the official Independence Day.
The date of July 3 holds special significance in Belarusian history, symbolising freedom and peace for its citizens. It was adopted following a national referendum held in November 1996.
