Baku Initiative Group pledges continued support for Sikh resistance
The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) will continue to actively support Sikh resistance and other peoples facing colonial oppression, the group’s executive director, Abbas Abbasov, said on March 13.
Abbasov made the remarks during an international conference titled “Combating Transnational Repression by the Indian Government: Sikh Resistance and the UN” held in Geneva, Switzerland. The event took place alongside the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
According to Abbasov, the organisation would continue to resolutely advocate for the rights of Sikhs and other communities that remain under colonial pressure.
He also said that issues concerning Sikhs persecuted by India were first raised at the UN level through the efforts of the Baku Initiative Group.
