Armenian military commissar gets $23,000 in bribe to release conscript from service
The head of the territorial department of the Conscription and Mobilization Staffing Service of the Armenian Defense Ministry, S.D. received a bribe of $23,000 to release a conscript from military service.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, a resident of Yerevan G.H. appealed to him in the summer of 2023 with a request to release his son from the army on the basis of a far-fetched illness, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
In order to recognize the conscript as unfit, he was registered in Goris, the conscription from there falls under the jurisdiction of the Syunik Military Committee.
In exchange for the "favour", S. D. received a bribe of 8.887 million drams ($23,000).
The official and the conscript's father were detained. They were charged, after which they were arrested.
