Asharq News: Hamas vows to respond to Israel's Gaza proposal within two days
The Palestinian Islamic movement HAMAS is expected to respond to a new Israeli proposal for a resolution in the Gaza Strip within the next two days.
The group’s leadership is currently holding internal consultations regarding the latest proposal, and a response will be delivered to the mediators “within the next 48 hours,” Caliber.Az cites an Asharq News report as saying.
The report also states that HAMAS “will not accept any initiative or resolution that does not include a clause for a full and comprehensive ceasefire [in Gaza].”
On the issue of the hostages held in the enclave, a representative of the group said that HAMAS “has no objection regarding the number of individuals that could be handed over [to the Israeli side]” as part of the next group under a broader agreement, if one is reached.
Since restarting the war, Israel has killed more than 1,500 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities. Gaza’s Ministry of Health says at least 50,983 Palestinians are confirmed dead and 116,274 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza.
Hundreds of thousands of people have again been displaced since Israel resumed its campaign as well as imposed a total blockade on Gaza, forcing the territory into a state of siege and starvation.
