Assad appoints former minister to form new Syrian government
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has tasked Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalili, the former Minister of Communications and Technology, with forming a new government for Syria.
This decision was announced through a Telegram channel by the President’s office, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalili brings a wealth of experience to this role. He served as Minister of Communications and Technology from August 2014 to July 2016 and was deputy head of the Ministry of Communications from 2008 to 2014. In September 2023, al-Jalili became the rector of the Syrian Private University. He holds a doctoral degree in engineering economics from Ain Shams University in Cairo.
Bashar al-Assad, who has been Syria’s President since 2000, has faced significant challenges throughout his tenure, including a prolonged civil war that began in 2011 and has had profound impacts on the country’s political and social landscape. Assad’s administration has been marked by efforts to consolidate power and address the complexities arising from ongoing conflict and international pressures.
