Australia eyes military support for Gulf states amid rising Iran threats
Australia is weighing requests for military assistance from Gulf countries threatened by Iran, while defence experts warn that the country’s drone capabilities remain limited.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong said any support provided by Australia would be strictly defensive, Caliber.Az reports per Australian media.
Retired Australian Army Major General Fergus McLachlan suggested that Australia could offer early warning and air management systems to detect drones and missiles.
“It's a world-class capability. It's done deployments into eastern Europe, where I think, based out of Poland, it has had the ability to observe drones and missiles that are heading towards Ukraine. […] I think that would be the most suitable contribution that we could make,” he said.
