Azerbaijan condemns ideologies that threaten international peace, security Foreign Ministry's statement
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has made a statement on the 78th anniversary of Victory Day over Fascism condemning the attempts to justify dangerous ideologies that threaten international peace and security.
As reported by Caliber.Az, the foreign ministry's statement is as follows:
"Today marks 78 years since the historic victory over Nazism in World War II, one of the most devastating wars in world history. May 9 - On this significant day marked as Victory Day, we commemorate with deep respect and honour the dear memory of everyone who fought against the threat of Nazism, which posed a serious threat to humanity, including our heroic compatriots who showed unparalleled bravery and sacrifice during the war.
On the anniversary of the victory over Nazism, we strongly condemn attempts to justify dangerous ideologies that threaten international peace and security, such as racism, Nazism, and fascism, and to heroize those who support them, we call on the international community to cooperate in eliminating such trends in order not to face the dangers of war that shake the whole world and result in mass casualties and destruction.
The role and services of the Azerbaijani people, who showed bravery on the front and rear fronts during the war years, sent more than 600,000 sons and daughters to the front, and fought a glorious battle from the Caucasus to Berlin, are undeniable in the victory over Nazism.
In this regard, 123 of our compatriots were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their bravery in winning the victory, and more than 170,000 of our soldiers and officers were awarded with various orders and medals.
Self-sacrificing work of our people on the rear front, full mobilization for the sake of Victory was of exceptional importance in providing support to the army fighting on the front, including in winning the war.
Azerbaijan's natural resources, especially oil reserves, played a decisive role in securing victory in the fight against Nazism. In 1941-1945, more than 70 per cent of the oil produced in the Soviet Union, 80 per cent of the gasoline, and 90 per cent of the engine oil fell to Azerbaijan.
Thanks to the invaluable service of our oil workers who worked day and night to meet the needs of the front, the products produced played a decisive role in the fate of the war.
The modern history of our nation, which is ready to make all sacrifices for the sake of protecting its homeland, sovereignty and territorial integrity throughout history, is also marked by brilliant victories, especially the Glorious Victory won by the brave Azerbaijani Army led by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief in the 44-day Patriotic War.
It was during the 44-day Patriotic War that our people mobilized for the restoration of our internationally recognized territorial integrity and put an end to the illegal military occupation of Armenia that had lasted for nearly 30 years, thus succeeding in writing a Glorious Victory in our history.
The dear memory of our compatriots who died for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country will live forever in the hearts of our people. Once again, we commemorate our heroic compatriots who wrote glorious victories in our history with deep respect and gratitude".
In the same vein, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry shared a publication on May 9 - Day of Victory over Fascism in World War II on its official Twitter page honouring the memories of Azerbaijanis who fought against fascism.
"On the 78th anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II, we honour the bright memory of all our compatriots who contributed to achieving this victory, showed selflessness, courage and heroism at the fronts and in the rear,"the publication reads.
