Azerbaijan discovers bones resembling human skeleton in Aghdam
On June 12, bones resembling a human skeleton were found in the village of Magsudlu, located in the Aghdam district of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan, prosecutors promptly inspected the discovery site. The skeletal remains have been sent to a laboratory for detailed examination and analysis, Caliber.Az reports.
The Aghdam District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an official investigation into the incident to determine the origin and circumstances surrounding the remains.
Since the 2020 war, numerous human remains have been uncovered across Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, particularly in areas liberated during the conflict. Over 600 bodies, many from the First Karabakh War (1988–94), have been exhumed from mass graves and individual burial sites in districts such as Aghdam, Khojaly, Shusha, and Khojavand. These discoveries often reveal signs of torture and other war crimes. Azerbaijani authorities, with international support, are conducting thorough forensic and genetic analyses to identify the remains and provide closure to families of missing persons. The ongoing efforts highlight the humanitarian importance of addressing the legacy of the conflict.
