Azerbaijan, Estonia deepen consular ties in high-level consultations
Delegations from the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Estonia convened in the Estonian capital for consular consultations aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and modernizing consular practices.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Director of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Estonian side was represented by Tiina Nirk, Director General of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media
During the consultations, both delegations reviewed the current state of consular relations and discussed prospects for expanding the legal framework governing consular cooperation between the two nations. Emphasis was placed on strengthening mechanisms for providing effective consular support to citizens and safeguarding their rights and interests abroad.
The delegations exchanged views on their respective visa policies and explored avenues to align procedures for improved mobility and access. Notably, the importance of digitalization and the adoption of e-services in consular affairs was highlighted as a critical step in responding to the demands of a rapidly evolving global landscape. Both sides shared best practices and technological solutions aimed at increasing efficiency and service accessibility.
In addition to consular matters, the consultations included discussions on potential cooperation between the internal affairs institutions of Azerbaijan and Estonia. Proposals were put forward to develop joint initiatives in the areas of migration policy, law enforcement collaboration, and academic exchange in the fields of science and education.
The meeting reaffirmed the mutual commitment of Azerbaijan and Estonia to deepening bilateral ties and fostering innovative, citizen-centered approaches to diplomacy and public service.
