The actions of the observers were closely monitored by Azerbaijani border guards, who controlled and recorded both foot and vehicle movements of the EU mission members near the villages of Fetelipeye and Seyidli, located in the Lachin and Zangilan districts, respectively.
It is worth noting that the EU’s monitoring mission in Armenia routinely conducts such surveillance along the Azerbaijan border, with reports and footage of these activities regularly published by Azerbaijani media outlets.
To recall, European Union ambassadors in Brussels have approved the extension of the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) for an additional two years, ensuring the continued presence of European observers along Armenia’s border regions until February 19, 2027.
Armenian media sources report that the mission’s mandate will remain unchanged from its original two-year term. The team will consist of 165 foreign nationals and 44 Armenian personnel, with no changes to the composition or number of observers.
This decision is expected to receive formal approval from the EU member states' foreign ministers shortly, although it is considered a mere formality following the ambassadors' approval on January 29.
