Azerbaijan’s grand suspension bridge over Agsu river nears completion
The construction of a grand suspension bridge across the Agsu River, located at the 4.5 km mark of the Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala road in Azerbaijan, is entering its final stages.
According to Anar Najafli, head of the press service of the State Road Agency of Azerbaijan, the four-span bridge will stretch a total of 1,135 meters, with a height of 76.5 meters above the river level and the supporting pylons reaching 142 meters in height, Caliber.Az reports.
Najafli highlighted that, in line with a special directive from the President, the bridge will reduce the length of the Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala road by 9.7 km, bringing the total distance to 76.8 km.
The bridge has been designed to withstand a magnitude 9 earthquake, ensuring its durability and safety.
Once completed, the structure will not only reduce travel time and ease traffic flow but also significantly boost tourism and agriculture in the region.
Notably, the completion of the Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala road is expected by the end of 2025, according to Natig Aliyev, Director of the Hydrotransproject Research Centre.
"Tree transplanting and other associated works require time, but we are committed to completing the road's construction by the end of 2025," Aliyev stated.
A vital route will connect Azerbaijan's capital Baku to several northern districts including Ismayilli, Gabala, Oghuz, Shaki, Gakh, Zagatala, and Balakan.
Upon completion, the Muganli-Ismayilli-Gabala road's length will be reduced by 9.7 km, bringing it to a total of 76.8 km. The existing two-lane road will be expanded to four lanes.
