Netherlands thanks Azerbaijan for rescuing injured citizen

The Embassy of the Netherlands has expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani authorities for rescuing and providing emergency medical assistance to a Dutch citizen who was injured on August 29 while hiking in a mountainous area of Shaki.

“In particular, we thank the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the emergency rescue operation carried out in challenging mountainous terrain and in darkness, the prompt evacuation by helicopter, and the provision of initial medical assistance at the scene,” the Embassy of the Netherlands in Azerbaijan said in a statement on X.

The embassy also praised the “medical assistance, professional approach and prompt intervention” of staff at Shaki Central District Hospital and Yeni Klinika in Baku.

“The swift and coordinated response of the relevant authorities during this incident made an important contribution to ensuring the safety of the Dutch national,” the statement added.

On August 29, a Dutch citizen sustained serious injuries after being attacked by dogs while hiking in a mountainous area of Shaki District.

The injured woman was evacuated under difficult conditions from an altitude of around 2,000 meters above sea level and taken to Shaki Central District Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.
