Azerbaijan strengthens diplomatic ties with Kuwait, Lithuania as new ambassadors present credentials
On January 10, President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, welcomed the newly appointed ambassadors of Kuwait and Lithuania, Mohammad Faisal Almutairi and Kęstutis Vaškelevičius, respectively, as they presented their credentials to the head of state.
Ambassador Mohammad Faisal Almutairi conveyed the greetings of Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, and Crown Prince Shaikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah to President Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
In return, President Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked the ambassador to extend his regards to Kuwait’s leadership.
During the conversation, President Aliyev highlighted the growing political ties between the two countries and fondly recalled his official visit to Kuwait. The President also expressed confidence that Azerbaijan and Kuwait's brotherly relations would continue to thrive, with favorable conditions supporting their further development.
The sides discussed mutual cooperation in international organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and OPEC+.
The close collaboration between the two countries and the importance of strengthening ties with the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council were pointed out at the meeting.
The Kuwaiti ambassador also conveyed the Amir’s condolences regarding the recent plane crash and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Ambassador Almutairi extended congratulations to Azerbaijan for successfully organizing COP29, noting the high-level representation from Kuwait during the event.
The parties emphasized the development of economic, trade, and investment ties and discussed the convening of the intergovernmental commission and political consultations between the foreign ministries of both nations. They also highlighted the recent expansion of bilateral tourism and people-to-people contacts.
President Ilham Aliyev also received the credentials of Kęstutis Vaškelevičius, the newly appointed Ambassador of Lithuania to Azerbaijan.
The ambassador conveyed the sincere greetings of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda to the Azerbaijani President. In return, President Aliyev thanked the ambassador and asked him to extend his regards to the Lithuanian president.
The conversation focused on the strong historical and diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Lithuania. President Aliyev recalled the official visits of both heads of state in 2022 and 2023, as well as his recent phone conversation with President Nausėda.
Ambassador Vaškelevičius emphasized the significant progress made in bilateral relations since the independence of both countries in the late 20th century.
The ambassador also noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and expressed his commitment to further solidifying these ties. He also reiterated Lithuania’s support for Azerbaijan's relations with the European Union and commended Azerbaijan’s humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
The sides discussed the importance of mutual support for each other’s independence and freedom and expressed shared goals of fostering peace and stability in the South Caucasus. Additionally, they discussed opportunities for greater cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture, and renewable energy.
Ambassador Vaškelevičius also extended his condolences to Azerbaijan regarding the recent plane crash and praised the country’s citizens for their role in saving many lives during the incident.
